16 objects of renewable energy sources (RES) with a total capacity of 629 MW are planned to be introduced in 2019, Minister of energy Kanat Bozumbayev said.
“In the renewable energy sector, 5 renewable energy facilities were commissioned in Mangystau, Zhambyl, Almaty and Karaganda regions in 2018. The largest are 50 MW “Burnoye Solar – 2″ and 100 MW Solar station in Saran. Thus, today 67 renewable energy facilities with a capacity of 531 MW operate in the country. In 2019, it is planned to introduce 16 facilities with a total capacity of 629 MW, ” he said at a press conference on December 26.
In 2020, the number of renewable energy facilities is planned to increase by more than 2 times. As a result, 124 facilities with a total capacity of 2,353 MW will operate.
“This year we held the first international auctions, where 36 RES projects with a total capacity of 858 MW were selected. 113 companies from 9 countries took part in the auctions,” Bozumbayev said. In particular, the auction was attended by companies from Kazakhstan, Russia, France, Bulgaria, China, Turkey, UAE, Netherlands, Italy.
As a result of the auction, 30 companies won, with which a 15-year contract for the purchase of electricity will be signed.
It should be noted that at the auction, electricity tariffs for wind farms were reduced by an average of 12%, for solar –by 35%. But it is still more expensive than tariffs of traditional stations (20 tenge for 1 kWh – wind, 22 tenge – sun, 7.16 tenge – coal stations, 9.66 tenge – gas stations).
“We will continue the practice of auctions. And taking into account the reduction in the cost of renewable energy technologies in the future, the degree of influence on tariffs for consumers will decrease,” Bozumbayev said.
